About the Artist
Born in Vicenza, Italy, Helena Anderson has had a life long appreciation for the arts. After graduating from Kutztown University with a BFA, Helena began exhibiting her work almost immediately, all over the Mid-Atlantic region. Helena has taught at Rutgers University, and currently, at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she is also pursuing her Masters Degree. Her current research is into the ways in which ritual performance can induce healing and transformation for individuals and groups.
Helena began painting in watercolor after discovering an allergy to solvents used in painting oils. Discovering that she loved the way watercolors ebbed and flowed on paper, the transition from oils to watercolor was a smooth one for her. Helena suffers from fibromyalgia, a connective tissue ailment that plagues its sufferers with aches and pains as well as a sleep disorder. Through painting, she has found a way to heal herself and to help others find solace through art.
Ms. Anderson currently lives outside Philadelphia with her husband Bill and three cats.
