Northern Italy Genova, Milano, and Verona
Cimitero Monumentale Di Staglieno
It may be considered the symbol of the city Genova. The sculptures there are
so impressive to have been named as the talking statues; different art movements have melted there (from the second half of XIX Century to 1930):
Gothic, Realism, Liberty and Neoclassicism.
The marriage between art and the decadence of the cemetery makes this place unique; The sculptures are heavily covered with dust, the galleries have been completely abandoned, and the English cemetery on the hill in ruins. Upon entering there is like a fascinating journey far from space and time.
Thanks to Joy Division, Staglieno became famous in the Goth scene, as
two of the talking statues appear on two album covers: Closer and Love will tear us apart.
A curiosity: the wife of Oscar Wilde is buried there.
Cimitero Monumentale Di Milano
This cemetery was finished in the second half of XIX century in order to
celebrate the most famous citizens of Milano (Manzoni, Toscanini and Verdi
for example are buried there). Among the moltitude of statues ad chapels, we
notice the presence of works by famous artists such as Wildt and Medardo
Rosso.
Cimitero Monumentale Di Verona
It was built in the second half of XIX century as well. The sculptures can be found mainly along the archways of the Temple. The famous Artist Boccioni (Futurism Movement) is buried there.
