Scenes from the Mind’s Eye
Connie Persampieri
I’ve been drawing since before I can remember, I doodled on everything I could get my greasy little paws on – including my mothers bed sheets. Upon reaching Jr. High and High School, I took the elective art classes and was among the few that had been hand picked for a special summer program to study at the University of Illinois. In College I majored in Fine Art/Illustration and eventually had taken every art class that school had to offer. All through out High School & College I regularly participated in local art competitions, where all my entries had been awarded First thru Third Prizes.
In September 1989, I joined the United States Marine Corps as a Graphic Illustrator, stationed at MCCDC Quantico Virginia. Here I learned the ways of the traditional graphics shop: desktop publishing, silk-screening, hand drawn flip charts, illustrations & diagrams, caricatures, and the Genigraphics Slide Capture System (the great grandfather to MS PowerPoint). All of which were used in creating military training modules for the U.S. Marine Corps.
I’m a traditional artist. I favor Graphite most of all, and a close second is Watercolors/Gouache. I also use: pen and ink, conte, charcoal, colored pencils, Tria & Prismacolor markers, and airbrush (illustration & t-shirt). I’m just starting to dabble in Photoshop, but it’s nothing serious yet. I try not to place myself in any one particular artistic genre (ie: faery artist, etc) since I have a broad range of interests. One second I could be working on a new faery painting, next thing I know I’m working on some dark emotional piece.
My lifelong passion became a reality in October of 2003, after having quit my day job to pursue my dream of being a freelance artist / illustrator. My most recent projects include; 5 pieces of art for the Collectable Card Game: “Final Twilight”, and character pin-ups for the comic books: “The Art of Wraith” 1 & 2. Currently I showcase my artwork at local conventions, mostly Comic and Craft shows, but next year I plan on doing some gaming and sci-fi conventions as well. A list of these appearances will be available on my website.
