About the Artist
The silly and sleepless Mistress McCutchan, otherwise known in the real world simply as Laura, created Morbid Outlook in August of 1992, while still a gothling in high school.

She is a freelance web designer, but also makes time to also design and make all sorts of stuff, DJ, dance as one-half of Serpentina as well as direct her Toronto-based troupe, The Serpentina North Ensemble. She is vegan, but not one of the pushy ones. When not working like a maniac, she can be found becoming one with the couch, especially if Three’s Company is on.

Azrael’s Accomplice
Mistress McCutchan
I just feel that I have grown as a designer and as a person.” Batty tells us, as she prepares to launch the new Azrael’s Accomplice line and web site. “I love so many high fashion styles, and working in the high fashion community makes me more aware that you don’t have to stick to strictly ‘goth’ or underground fashion to be edgey. I want this collection to appeal to a wider range of people and not just be pigeon holed into one subculture. I guess as I grow so does my fashion.”
The newest collection was inspired by high fashion and clubwear of the 1980’s, as well as Japanese Gothic Lolita and touches of historical elements. She calls it “Debauched Debutantes and Broken Dolls.”
When asked who her favourite designer to work with would be, Batty chooses Galliano for Dior. “He’s just so quirky, weird, elegant, and wonderfully creative all at the same time.”
What does the future hold? Batty hopes to leave Texas to open a boutique in New Orleans in the next year or so, and then off to New York City. “In my opinion the only place to make it in the high fashion business if you are serious about it.” The wedding gown pictured above is from an upcoming high end line, AZAC. “I also plan to release a collection of wedding gowns and a collection of costumes within the next two years. These may or not be under a different label.”
