Botanica Erotica - The Sensual Side of Herbalism
Hello readers, and welcome to the July sex issue of Witch Hazel! I would like to introduce you to a fantastic book, Botanica Erotica and share some of my favourite aphrodisiac and bodytopping recipes.
Botanica Erotica is Diana De Luca and published by Healing Arts Press. This is an amazing book, one that no herbal library should be without. While I have found many sources for herbal health and beauty care, many seem to gloss over or ignore herbal aphrodisiacs. Here, the author, Diana De Luca offers detailed descriptions on many herbs that can be used alone or in combination to arouse your partner and heighten the sexual experience. She also includes a history of sexual Gods and Goddesses and historical figures such as Mae West and Cleopatra!
You will also find an array of recipes for sensual food and drink as well as body toppings that you can make at home. After reading the entire book you will be fully armed to prepare a sumptuous feast of dinner, drinks and maybe serve yourself as dessert! There’s advice on sensual decor for bedroom and body, and stimulating fragrances. Of course you will want to start out with a sexy bath either alone or with a partner to get fully in the mood for your exotic preparations.
Here are a few of my favourite sensual recipes:
Start with a bath to honor the African Goddess Oshun that will make you oh-so-desirable to the object of your affection. Add 1/2 cup honey to running bath water and just a dash of cinnamon. Soak for about 15 minutes and you’ll soften your skin to boot! You may prepare this bath yourself, but it’s best to when you let your partner fill the tub for you.
Luscious Luna is one of the yummiest alcohol concoctions I have ever tried. It was created at my local bar one night completely by accident when my bartender had run out of the butterscotch she needed to make a Buttery Nipple.
This drink contains vanilla and chocolate liquors, both of which have strong aphrodisiac powers:
1 shot Carolans
Irish Creme Quick pour 47
vanilla liquor Quick pour
Godiva Chocolate liquor Splash
chocolate syrup
Mix all ingredients over ice in a rock glass, stir well and enjoy! For a non-alcoholic drink that is just as sensual, blend a couple of glasses of Vanilla-Clove Soda.It is incredibly easy to make and is light and refreshing. Simply pour 1 tablespoon of vanilla syrup (usually sold near the gourmet coffees in your supermarket) into a tall glass. Add one whole clove and fill the glass with plain seltzer. Stir lightly to blend.Ice may be added if desired.
You can blend your own Love Tea using dried herbs and flowers. Mix equal part of dried rose buds and hibiscus flowers with a few pieces of cinnamon bark. Use 1 teaspoon of the mixture for each cup of tea and add 1 clove to each cup. Steep in boiled water for about 15 minutes and strain. Honey is an ideal sweetener that will add to the aphrodisiac properties.
You can find a variety of flavoured body toppings right in your grocery store. First take a trip to an art supply store for a clean paintbrush that has soft bristles. Next, a walk through the aisles of your supermarket will reveal a slew of desert toppings that you may never have thought to use in the bedroom! Items such as honey, Nutella hazelnut spread, and hot fudge sauce (Do not heat, it spreads better cool) can be applied with the paintbrush for economical body paints.
Powdered sugar makes an excellent body dust when applied with a soft feather and tastes much better than saccharine based commercial body dusts.
For a sensual massage, use sesame oil. According to Botanica Erotica, sesame seeds can stimulate passions, and you won’t have to worry about accidentally ingesting any harmful synthetic scented oils.
Vanilla-Clove body spray is my own version of one of Diana De Luca’s recipes. Pour one capful of alcohol based vanilla extract into a 2 ounce spray bottle. Add 5 drops of clove essential oil, shake well. Fill bottle to the top with filtered water and spray on your body or around the room to entice your partner’s senses!
Note : In response to Kendy’s question last month, Jason wrote in: “It might be important for people who suffer from serious allergies to be told to not take Echinacea while they are symptomatic. Echinacea, as is generally known, exaggerates immune response to some degree. Serious allergic response can potentially be worsened by ingesting it, which could possibly be dangerous, or at least increasingly unpleasant.”
Thanks for the advice!
