Allergies, Eczema, Anxiety & Parsley Tea
Greetings! This month, our readers want to know:
Hello. I have always been very allergic to nickel, and possibly other metals, so it makes wearing jewelry a real nuisance. I get itchy red bumps that, if left ignored, turn into itchier scabs and onto even itcher, large absesses. What you would recommend for preventing/treating an allergic reaction to metal such as this. Thank you!
Allergies to the metal nickel are quite common. Nickel is used in all jewelry along with zinc and other metals to make them sturdier for wearing. Naturally, the higher the karat of gold, the less nickel present, but it is still there nonetheless. Some people outgrow this sooner than others, but it is quite distressing for those who suffer with the problem.
Dermatologists are able to provide treatment for this type of rash but it is usually short lived. At present, the best thing to do if you must wear jewelry is to have it coated with palladium to decrease the direct contact of nickel with the skin. During the warmer months, you may want to also coat yourself with talcum powder to keep the moisture down wearever you may be wearing jewelry as the skin salt and sweat are a prime environment for having an outbreak.
Dear Witch Hazel,
Unfortunately, I am a sufferer of moderate to severe eczema which started about half a year ago due to a severe panic attack. I often have problems with stress and panic attacks, which are actually the cause of my eczema. I was wondering if any particular food or herbal remedy could help my eczema or help me relax. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks heaps,
Paige
First of all Paige, be sure that you do not use caffeine, cigarettes or mints of any kind. These all help to overexcite the body and in turn can contribute to your anxieties. Try taking an oatmeal bath once a week. Be sure it is a quiet time where you can soak and listen to very quiet music. Each night, make it a practice to meditate and calm the mind. There are an enormous amount of tapes and CD’s on the market which can guide you into the proper tranquil state. If the anxiety continues or gets worse, do seek out a therapist as sometimes there are imbalances with our body chemistry that cannot be solved via other means.
Hello Witch Hazel,
I have been having a hard time at my job. My supervisor has not been treating me very well at my new job. I would like to know what I could do to keep her off of my back! I would also like to know what I could do to ensure that I get another job with better pay and treatment!!
Thank You, R.B.
Here is something you may want to try.
Next time your supervisor starts hassling you, ask if you can schedule an appointment to meet with her privately. Be sure you write down your grievances so that you are prepared for your meeting. Remain calm at all costs because sometimes a supervisor is instructed to squeeze the employee to make you quit so a company can get out of paying unemployment. Be direct and assertive without being angry and combative. Tell the supervisor that you feel unjustly persecuted and you would like to know what seems to be the problem with your performance with the job. If that doesn’t calm things down, go over the supervisors head to the next level.
As far as magickal workings, write her name on a piece of paper and put it in a small container. (Empty plastic medicine bottles work well for me.) Fill the container with dark coffee. Seal it and hold it in your hand, visualizing that your supervisor is smiling with you and no longer hassling you. Then put it as far back in your freezer as you can possibly find and leave it there until you leave that job.
To find a new job, hold five pennies in your dominant hand (the one you write with) and visualize a new job with better pay is in your reach. Feel it intensely and believe it is yours and it is only a matter of time. Take the pennies to the nearest body of running water and fling them in thanking the God and Goddess for their intervention to bring you the employment you seek.
Dear Witch Hazel,
I’m not the best public speaker in the world and I have a big presentation in two weeks. I’m stressing over it. Seriously, it is all I think about and it is ruining my month. Is there anything that you recommend doing?
Thank You, Aaron.
Aaron, breathe deeply and ask yourself if what you are stressing over is really going to matter in 100 years from now? More often than not it isn’t, which should help take the edge off. Everyone who will be listening to your presentation has gone through some level of this type of anxiety and you are not alone.
You may want to seek out some audio hypnosis tapes on building confidence and public speaking. Avoid caffeine and any type of stimulant starting now so that you don’t increase your level of anxiety.
You could also go for a walk in a wooded area and seek out a small smooth dark rock. When you find it, pour all your anxiety into it. Be sure to keep it with you so that any time you feel anxious, you can hold it and give it a squeeze so that the anxiety pours from you into the rock.
Do write back and let us know how you made out with the presentaion.
Hi, I read your column on parsley and was wondering how to make parsley tea.
– Krystal
You have two choices when making parsley tea. You can get some fresh parsley from your local grocer. Take approximately two tablespoons of fresh parsley and add it a mug of boiling water and let it steep for about five minutes. Strain. Add honey as desired.
If you only have the dried parsley, then you can use about two teaspoons and put in boiling water as above.
Thank you for reading. Send your questions to me at witchhazel@morbidoutlook.com and stay tuned for the next column.
