Readers Q & A : Stability, Witchery, and a Touch of Cinnamon
Hello dear readers and happy holidays! As we fall full-swing into the holiday season, inquiring readers ask:
Dear Witch Hazel,
Im a wanderer at heart. I love to travel, and I especially long to be in California mainly for economic reasons. My boyfriend, however, is very
solidly grounded in our current location, New Hampshire. He disagrees with anything I have to say about going someplace new, or me going on a trip somewhere for any period of time. Were very poor, so a move out to California would require a scouting mission, but we have a one year old daughter and shes just too stability-dependent right now.
Im currently without a job, so now would be the time, but how can I tell him Im terribly unhappy where we are and that our financial situation would be heaps and bounds better if we moved out there? How can I get him to let go of his umbilical cord to his mother and father? Or, should I just go, leave them here, and see if he comes around?
Thanks,
Patricia
Patricia, if there wasnt a child involved, I would tell you to follow your bliss. However, as the parent to this child, you are part of a duo who need to keep some semblance of stability in this childs life. Whatever actions either of you will undertake while your daughter is in her formative years will have consequences for her down the road. Whether these experiences become good or bad for her is entirely up to what you do today. Taking off and leaving her behind will more than likely leave her with one heck of an abandonment issue that can scar her for a good long time.
While I can totally sympathize with your need to go someplace where you might be happy, I cant help but wonder what you will do if this move doesnt work out. Will you run off again in search of travel and fortune?
To move without some savings is almost guaranteeing you to failure. Right now you would do well to seek out employment where you are and create a nest egg for the eventual move. Additionally, do a web search for the type of job you might be qualified for out in California. The job market is as tough in the big cities as anywhere else in this country. Follow that up with the type of home you can afford.
Discuss the findings with your boyfriend and let him know that you are building a solid plan for a future move, hopefully with him included.
You mention that you are very poor and I am wondering if your boyfriends attachment to his family might not also be for financial reasons as well out of fear that you may in fact leave and he will need someone to watch your daughter.
Whatever you decide, be sure to have a solid plan backed up with some financial resources.
Best of luck to all of you!
Dear Witch Hazel,
Ive been a reader of your column for a couple of years and I appreciate the
advice you give to others. I now have a question of my own and hope you can
help!
Ive read somewhere in the past that certain spells work with certain phases of the moon. I recently ended a long-term relationship of five years, where
I lived rather comfortably with my boyfriend. Now that Im single again, I find that I constantly worry about money. What is the appropriate time for
money spells? How can I set my mind at ease?
Thank you for your help.
Blessed be,
Vanessa
Money spells are best done when the moon is going from new to full, culminating at the full moon. However, you must back up your actions with more than just a spell. A spell is nothing more than another form of prayer. There isnt any wand waving Hollywood magic attached to it.
By all means, do a money spell, but also see if you can locate another job that will pay you more than you are currently earning. It may take time, but your chances are greater with your spell/prayer working for you at the same time.
Many people who have broken up have found themselves in similar situations. It requires a certain discipline to cut back on expenditures. The old adage, use it up, wear it out or go without holds hard and fast in these circumstances.
Having been in your shoes, I had to ask myself, how many hours will I have to work to afford this item? When you put that question in front of yourself, you will be amazed at the hours you must put in for items that are wants and not needs. I had to live uncomfortably for a while until things gelled for me again. During that time, I simply had to go without the comforts that I was previously accustomed to. Rather than cursing this fate, I tried to figure out what the karma was that I had created to make this lesson come back to me. My lesson was to learn how to pick a more stable partner who isnt allergic to work or love. Once the great a-ha hit me in the face, things turned around rather quickly, with a new love in tow!
Best of luck to you on both the spell and your search for better employment.
How can you tell if you are a witch, especially when you have no mentor and have only done limited reading?
Being a witch merely means one practices the religion of Wicca. First and foremost, it is a religion and isnt the grandiose spellcasting that Hollywood wants you to believe. Doing any type of reading involves the psychic medium that we all have to some degree or another. Just because one is psychic, doesnt mean they are a witch. Not all witches are psychic and not all psychics are witches.
Some schools of thought state that as long as you practice the religious aspects of the religion and do a self dedication, then you are indeed a witch. Others are a bit more dogmatic in their approach and insist that a novice should be mentored and trained for a year and a day.
You might want to get a hold of books by Silver Ravenwolf or Raymond Buckland for starters.
I have hives. Can I use cinnamon oil on it to relieve the burning sensation? Thank You,
Ted
You can, but you might want to consider Benadryl first. Hives indicate that you are allergic to something and to play around with that could lead to all sorts of trouble. In very severe allergic conditions, you can actually stop breathing! Do contact your physician and try to find out the cause so you can get rid of the hives and the allergy completely.
Thank you for reading. Send your questions to me at witchhazel@morbidoutlook.com. I cant promise a personal reply due to the volume of mail I receive, but I will try my best to answer your questions. Do stay tuned for the next column.
