About the Author
The silly and sleepless Mistress McCutchan, otherwise known in the real world simply as Laura, created Morbid Outlook in August of 1992, while still a gothling in high school.

She is a freelance web designer, but also makes time to also design and make all sorts of stuff, DJ, dance as one-half of Serpentina as well as direct her Toronto-based troupe, The Serpentina North Ensemble. She is vegan, but not one of the pushy ones. When not working like a maniac, she can be found becoming one with the couch, especially if Three’s Company is on.

Dwelling – Humana
Track Listing: Silêncio Intemporal, Tecelões da Nova Realidade, The Wheel, Lingering Stupor, Chasing The Rainbow’s End, Remember Virtue, O Cinzel do Tempo, As the Storm Chants, The Reality That Remains.
This is the second album from Dwelling, released on Portuguese label Equilibrium Music. Very folky ethereal, very much along the lines of traditional Portuguese music (Brazilian guitarist Joao Gilberto comes to mind), but with a darker bend.
Caprice – The Evening of Iluvatar’s Children
Track Listing: Rhyme of Lore, Of Beren and Luthien, O Rowan Fair, Bath Song, Eleves of Rivendell, Shadow Bride, Galadriel’s Song, Galadriel’s Message to Aragorn, Galadriel’s Message to Legolas, Athelas, Elves Rolling Barrels, Sam’s Song, The Tower of Cirith Ungol, Passion (Sam Finds Frodo), Elves Beyond the Sea, The Last Ship.
A Lord of the Rings-inspired soundtrack (as you may suspect from the track listing) of medieval neo-classical, from this Russian outfit. A perfect piece from the fairy-genre ethereal of Prikosnovenie’s catalogue.
Medieval Baebes – Mistletoe & Wine
Track Listing: The Holly & The Ivy, Gaudete, L‘Amor de Moi, Salva Nos, Glass Window, There is No Rose of Swyeh Verta, Kinderly, In Dulce Jubilo, Love Me Broughte, I Am Eve, Quan Vey La Lauzeta, The Coventry Carol, Undrentide, Ecce Mundi Gaudium, Blow Northern Wind.
The press kit says something to the effect of The Medieval Baebes being the evil twin of Sarah Brightman, multiplied by eight, and I’m prone to agree. These lovely ladies sing in Mediaeval Welsh, Latin, Middle English, Mediaeval French, German and Italian; this album in particular, is a lush holiday album, which will be available to the public this month. Beautiful. More info can be found through Nettwerk or the official Medieval Baebes site.
Hannah Fury – I Can’t Let You In e.p.
Track Listing: I Can’t Let You In (album version), It Was Her House that Killed Nessarose (album version), Never Come Down Again, Someone Speaks Softly, Flying, Of Longing and Otherness (album version).
The piano stylings of Tori Amos meets the ethereal pop quality of Kate Bush on a Victorian tip and you have Hannah Fury. The tracks of this e.p. were inspired by Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and the songs have a delightfully eerie storytelling quality. For more info, check out Mellow Traumatic Recordings.
Eastern Uprising
Track Listing: Goddess - Joi, Cocoon - Core, Sitar Funk - Earthtribe, Harmon Dub - Black Star Liner, Dum Maro Dum - Safri Goes To Bollywood, Return Of The Shankar - Krome Assasins, Temple Of Boom - Tango Padre, Ruffistah - Bedouin Ascent, R.A.F.I. - Asian Dub Foundation, Loaded Mantra - Masters Of Sound, Rude Boy - Earthtribe, Om - Patrina.
A fantastic compilation where London DJs mix classical Indian music to create some very listenable and infectious bhangra. This album was originally released in 1997, but I think bhangra is catching the ear of more and more in American clubs today.
La Floa Maldita – Dedication! Separation!
Track Listing: Your Indecision, Sorciere, Force Matrice, La Fin, Last Call, Daydreamer, Such Is Life, No Destination, Dedication! Separation!, Pas De Confiance, March O Zero, C‘est Normal, Sorciere (Das Ich Remix).
Sweet, French ethereal with driving dance beats. A fabulous combination of soaring, feminine vocals with dance music, from this “evil flower” (which is what the band name translates as in English). Sure to please Delirium and Die Form fans alike. More info can be found on the official site.
The The – Mind Bomb
Track Listing: Good Morning Beautiful, Armageddon Days (Are Here Again), The Violence of Truth, Kingdom of Rain, The Beat(en) Generation, August & September, Gravitate to Me, Beyond Love.
An old favourite to round-off the month; both strong and sensuous, and still as amazing as when it was first released in 1989. Not to be missed this the duet with Sinead O’Connor on “Kingdom of Rain” and my favourite song of the month is “Gravitate to Me”.
